What is I-FPRS?

There are three components to SAFE Project’s I-FPRS approach, and states and organizations can tailor these options to suit their needs.

  • Participant Training: A three- or four-day training for Certified Peers Recovery Specialists with each day focusing on a different domain (recovery and wellness, advocacy, mentoring and education and ethical responsibility). These are supplemental to credentials as a Peer Recovery Specialist, and can be offered through a state system as an endorsement or re-certification training.
  • Training of Trainers (ToT): A four-day training to certify individuals to deliver the I-FPRS Participant Training to the Peer Recovery Specialist workforce across their state.
  • Organizational Readiness for Peer Support: This is a half-day training for stakeholders (criminal justice system administrators like probation, parole, and their leadership) to assess organizational readiness and highlight where there are opportunities to engage and embed I-FPRS in the criminal justice system to reduce recidivism and improve administrator’s safety.

In addition, SAFE Project can provide evaluations, training modules customized to your state’s specific criminal justice system, a needs assessment and analysis to understand the perceptions and gaps in the existing peer workforce, and supplemental technical assistance to support the successful implementation across the state.

SAFE Project’s I-FPRS curriculum is recognized by the National Certification Board and the Florida Certification Board, which has reciprocity in Michigan, Texas, Illinois, Oregon, and Vermont. SAFE Project has contracted with several other states and all prospective participants are encouraged to check with their state prior to registering.

Who Is This Training For?

I-FPRS is primarily for larger organizations, multiple organizations coming together in a single state, and state agencies. Please contact SAFE Project to request a formal proposal. If you are a Peer Recovery Specialist seeking this I-FPRS training, please speak with your state’s agency or certification board to bring the ToT and other components to your state, or check out below for more information about one of our upcoming virtual national participant trainings.

National I-FPRS Participant Training (Virtual)

Are you an individual with a working knowledge of the peer recovery support scope of practice? SAFE Project invites you to attend one of our virtual participant trainings. Offered 2-3 times per year, this three-day training brings together currently Certified Peer Recovery Specialists and supervisors from across the nation and equips them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to support individuals with substance use disorders in navigating the cross-section of the behavioral health and criminal justice settings.

Please note: This is not a Training of Trainers (ToT). The training provides each participant with 24 hours to apply towards Continuing Education credits, if allowable by their state. Requirements vary by state, so please inquire in advance if these credits meet your requirements and will be approved.
